Makalu region, which is protected by Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project, is a home to world’s fifth-highest peak Mt. Makalu at 8,485 meters (27,838 ft).
Makalu region with the coverage area of 2330 sq km is just 19 km southeast of Mt. Everest. Lying between two eight-thousanders Everest and Makalu, this valley is blessed with a diversity of natural scenery and culture of local people. Trekkers are fascinated by spectacular views of snowcapped peaks including Mt. Makalu, Mt. Baruntse, etc while exploring this region.
